MX Respin for Window Maker Desktop updated

#1 Post by user-green »

Hello all,

I am pleased to announce the release of a re-spin for Window Maker Desktop.
This is an unofficial MX Repin based on MX Linux 23 and Debian 12.
Download is available from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-respin-windowmaker/

Re-spins are also archived at https://archive.org/details/@usergreen

Best regards

I tested the Respin and it is good. The known issues of application such as Synaptic not started from Wmaker menu, it can be solved by amending desktop file relating to Exec unless using policykit. Please see antiX linux on how they deal with it.

Thank ren for a good advice, and then I found an interesting post below.

Why cli-aptiX and no synaptic (386 base)

Confusingly, this respin also permits the first non-root user account to launch synaptic without password challenge, and with full permissions.

My knowledge of linux is relatively low. I just fixed it when I checked how other people did it.

pkexec or sudo? (good explanation)

I did the download and testing. It is nice and refreshing to see a classic Window Manager. Didn't know Window Maker has great tools for configuration. I am using Fvwm and everything is manually configured. Forgot to check, where is the main config file that loads the WM? In Fvwm it is in .fvwm directory. The config file can be added there. How in WM?

If you login successfully in WM, the config file will be copied to your home directory named GNUstep. Then you go to ~/GNUstep/Library/WindowMaker/Backgrounds/, you could save a new picture to your wallpaper. After that, you select menu (or press F12) WorkSpace, Appearance, Background, Images, you will see your saved pictures.

The autostart file is not created by the WM unless you save a setting in Preference. It helps to set up such as calendar, network (cmst) and etc with dockapp wmsystemtray.

WM web-site has a lot of information and a bit old. I started using it few months ago. May be the Respin creator has more to tell.

Hello, Mjaakko
You can get information at Official site below:
http://www.windowmaker.org/docs/FAQ.htm ... ndow-maker
Configuring files are inside your ~/GNUstep directory.

Also see a support page at

Thanks, found it.
For me, one interest in any WM is the workspace. WMaker has the Clip that changes the workspace. Does it also have one mini pager (miniature views of the desktop)? Screenshot, upper left corner:
