In my desktop (Ubuntu 20.04) I am running gloobus preview to conveniently display text, pictures, pdf etc.
In MX-21 on my laptop I tried to install the package, but I couldn't.
Any tip how to do? Or any alternative?
how to install gloobus preview
Re: how to install gloobus preview
How did you install it on Ubuntu, since it's not in their repository?
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

http://gloobus.net/gloobus-preview/
There is a source to install it on MX

Re: how to install gloobus preview
In 20.04, I just added the ppa, and installed.
But now, trying to add the ppa did not work, see attached.
Do I have to build it from source for MX-21?

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: how to install gloobus preview
did you do
sudo apt update
after adding that ppa ?
I believe that error means the connection was closed by the website or when attempting to connect and it cannot. Double check that your firewall is not blocking it.

*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Re: how to install gloobus preview
Maybe make a package request in the correct subforum, so that the packaging team can make something compatible with MX21?
MX is Debian, not Ubuntu, so PPAs focused on Ubuntu compatibility will mostly not work on Debian distros.

Re: how to install gloobus preview
Just build from source. That's what I always do when something isn't in my repositories. I gave the link to the source code earlier.hako wrote: Tue Jul 25, 2023 10:24 pm In 20.04, I just added the ppa, and installed.

Re: how to install gloobus preview
MX doesn't include the standard Ubuntu command to add random Ubuntu PPAs, because MX is based on Debian, not Ubuntu.

Re: how to install gloobus preview
Gloobus also seems to require gstreamer0.10 packages to build, which was removed from Debian before Buster.

Re: how to install gloobus preview
That's when I call it dependencies hell. I haven't test this or build this package myself. But, when I run across something that is dependence hell. I just open a container and start using older packages to get around the problems I might have. If current OS I'm using doesn't fit the bill. As obtaining the older package by building it or a nice package I can pick up to make the task much easier.Stevo wrote: Wed Jul 26, 2023 8:17 pm Gloobus also seems to require gstreamer0.10 packages to build, which was removed from Debian before Buster.
