linux_czkawka_gui.AppImage not working on MX 21.3

#1 Post by linuxbeliever »

Hi! Everybody

I want try the fsllint inprove clone called czkawka (Multi functional app to find duplicates, empty folders, similar images etc.), I downloaded the appimage from the developers page, and make it executable (sudo chmod +x linux_czkawka_gui.AppImage), but when I double click on it and waited for at least 1 minute, nothing happens. Any ideas? Here is the link to the developers page
https://github.com/qarmin/czkawka and this https://github.com/qarmin/czkawka/releases/tag/6.0.0 is where you download the latest version as of July 24 2023.

They probably didn't include a dependency in the appimage. Probably tested only on Ubuntu...

Hi! Adrian

Thanks for the reply. Do you know a way to make it compatible? The compile option seems a little complex for me. Thanks for your time and help in advance.

What happens if you try starting the appimage from the terminal? Do any error messages show up, such as sandboxing being required?

Ahh, we don't have gtk+ 4 in MX 21:

Code: Select all

czkawka_gui: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-4.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I tried the alternative appimage, which contains its own self-contained gtk4, but then that wants a newer libc6 (GLIBC) than we have in MX 21. MX 23 should be fine, though.

Hi! Stevo

Anyway, it can be put in backports for the moment to use it in MX21.3, please? Thanks for your time and help in advance.

No, a newer libc6 is not advisable on a stable system, since it's the base of the whole system.
