I noticed a degradation in performance and looked at my logs.

I believe the MFCJ5520DW\032-\032OFFICE\032\064\032mx-asus-lap is a ghost network printer. i deleted it way back when I was getting MX21 installed.
This printer appears in any application print dialogs but not in http://localhost:631/printers/.
Cannot find it in any CUPS config files.
Cannot find any way to delete it - or even find it using any application. Does not show in "Printers".
My linux knowledge level is probably advanced user, if that is a level.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

By any chance are you running a Ubiquiti edge router?
I have seen this when the DNSReflector service is on. The fix was to switch to the DNSRepeater service.
(I think Avahi may also have that same service as I recall.)

The only other time I have seen this error was when ipv6 was enabled, but the connected router had no ipv6 service.
In this case, turning off ipv6 resolved it.

Otherwise, your log shows that you have that MFC printer as an ipps printer currently engaged - if I am reading that right.

Router is Netgear RAX54 operating in router mode, ipv6 disabled. Not operating as a reflector.
Wifi printer is installed in ipps.
I disabled ipv6 on the laptop through advanced network setup but problem is still present.

Thanks for the insight.

Might be time to hunt down that ghost printer ;-/

This article has two solutions that seem to work for a few people.

Re: avahi filling my system log with errors  [Solved]

#5 Post by MikeComm »

I had already searched all the "conf" files to no avail. I did find the following that took care of the issue:

sudo nano /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf
In that file:

change “use-ip4=yes” to “use-ip4=no”

change “use-ip6=yes” to “use-ip6=no”

I had to change both to no - just changing ipv4 only was no help.
From my reading about avahi, changing is not a security risk since this my home network.

Now I need to address the [UFW BLOCK] issue

Thanks again for the help.
