Conflicting error window when running USBVIEW

#1 Post by linuxbeliever »

Hi! Everybody

When I try to run USBVIEW on my MX 21.3, from the menu it display a conflicting error window, see below please for more info. I tried to compile a new version from the developer main site ( running ./configure, make , sudo make install) in the source folder, but it did not change the version on my MX 21.3. The MX 21.3 version is 2.0-21-g6fe2f4f-2+deb11u1 and the developers is usbview-3.0. I will attach screenshots of the error running from shortcut menu and terminal, and also system info of my PC. Can you help me at least compile the developers version, please? Thanks for the time and help in advance.

Doing a search leads me to this post which although pretty old also says that USBView uses the depreciated usbfs ... so someone else may have insight into this, but it looks like its no longer supported.

viewtopic.php?p=463531#p463531

but USBView is still in the repos... so??

Two side notes:
1) if you use the QSI "post to forum" button, it will wrap your QSI in code quotes, ( also fifth button in the editing window above) and will make it much easier for people to read.

2) I see your running the 6.0.x kernel which is known to be quirky, you might consider upgrading to 6.1 or 6.2. (6.1 is LTS.)
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

I'll see if I can backport the 3.0 version from debian bookworm.

usbview_3.0-3~mx21 has now been uploaded to the MX-21 Test repository.
If you would like to try it before your mirror catches up, the deb is here:
