Thanks for all the great tips guys, now got MX running quite well on my 20 year old laptop !

With a mere 2GB of RAM it is actually quite surprising that it does indeed run OK, obviously not the fastest thing in the world, but at least it's now a usable computer. I did have Windows 7 Pro 'running' on it before, but it was like watching grass grow!

All of a sudden, computing has become fun again, so much so, I have been at my PC ( and laptop ) for a straight 16 hours now :happy: I've been following 'SteamPunk' YouTube channel all day, I've learned more in one day using Linux than I ever had.

Hi junoluna,

32Bit ...............
I tried downloading the 64Bit at first as the intention is to install MX on my main PC ( old laptop is purely to familiarise myself with the OS ). As I'm in France, I tried downloading from a French mirror, no success though, it kept on redirecting me!? I did manage to download the 32Bit in the end though from a different mirror. As it's designed for 32Bit systems I thought it best to use it ( I'll download the 64Bit for my main PC ).

I've already got my MX laptop on my Windows network ( setup is a breeze! ), and I've already transferred some documents. I must say I am very impressed on how little RAM is needed to run this OS ................ Windows was totally incapable of running anything on a 20 year old laptop. No doubt MX will run ( fly ) extremely well on my tower PC that has 32GB of RAM!

Appologies for my earlier error. I suggest that you use Repo Manager in MX Tools to switch your main repository to either Ablasserdam, The Netherlands or Milan, Italy. Both of these are owned and operated by the MX team and are always up to date -- no more redirects.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

With just 2 gigs of RAM, running MX Fluxbox's desktop would save a bit more of your precious, precious memory.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Thanks for the feedback guys, but just to reiterate, the MX21 32Bit install on my old laptop was merely a test, an experiment as such. As nothing else really worked properly.
My prime objective was to 'test', get a feeling for Linux MX before installing it onto my desktop ( main PC ), running 16GB RAM and 2 large monitors.

I'm happy to say, that this is my very first post on the forum using my main PC running 64Bit Linux MX23 ! ; )

Yeah, I decided to hold on a little while for MX23 to be available, as this desktop is my main PC and will replace Windows ( for ever! ).
I'm currently running off a Live USB stick, as my eventual install of MX23 will somewhat be a little awkward, shall we say!

But that's for another thread.

Ta Ta for now ; )
