Hi all, new Linux user .................. just a quick question if I may.

As per the title,
1st question - As I'm ditching Windows ( Windows 7 Ultimate ), currently running a 64Bit PC and wanting to install MX Linux on a 32Bit laptop first, when I click on the 32Bit download link I get transferred to the 64Bit download page as my system has been recognised as a 64Bit computer.

Is a 64Bit .ISO file backward compatible with a 32Bit system?

That's excellent news, as now I know I only need to download the 64Bit .ISO on one USB key, as I will also be installing MX Linux on my main tower PC that is running a 64Bit procecesor.

I'll be 'playing' with MX on my laptop for a couple of days before I do the complete transition from Windows.

I have a tip for you. If you still have Windows on your tower PC, download the ISO there and also download Rufus. Rufus is a utility that you can use to create a bootable usb drive from the MX ISO. When you use Rufus for the 32 bit install drive, you are going to want to use MBR partitioning.

I downloaded Rufus a few days ago preparing for this, but then I wondered whether I should use 'Etcher' instead
Not knowing one from the other, your tip helps a lot, thank you.

I just managed to download the 32Bit version ( states for 32Bit systems only ), as this install is on an old laptop, that's the one I will use.
I noticed that's it's about 200MB smaller, so there must be a reason. At least that's my reasoning!

Just to mention and to show some of the MX tools.
Once you have it downloaded and while you're 'playing' with it, you could also maybe download it again and use some of the MX tools to create a bootable live usb using:
MX Live USB Maker,
or using that tool, create a writable live-USB, modify it, remaster it using MX RemasterCC (or use some type of persistence before booting) and use that to install – j2mcgreg will likely correct me if I'm incorrect.

Just a few suggestions if you don't mind – it you have the time:
Look at MX Welcome, MX Tour (click on the links for more detail), and obviously the manual, and MX Tools, like MX Tweak and MX Boot Options.

Check out MX Snapshot, maybe Timeshift, and MXPI>Enabled Repos>user-installed-packages
to install those packages from MX21 to MX23 when it's released – maybe mid summer.

Maybe install thunar-media-plugin to show audio info when right-clicking audio files, and gtk-hash to do hash checks from thunar for downloaded ISOs.

You have that reversed. You can run 32-bit MX on 64-bit hardware, but not 64-bit on 32-bit hardware.

That applies to any computer OS, including Windows.
