Screen Glitches with Chrome and Zoom

#1 Post by Robbo »

Hi, so I've only noticed this happening with Google Chrome and Zoom, but when I run these apps I get screen glitches: horizontal lines or bars that briefly take up part of the screen and then disappear. They happen all over the app window. Otherwise the apps seem to run fine.
I'm running MX 21.3 xfce ahs, all the info is below.

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a Mesa Intel Xe Graphics (TGL GT2) graphics card issue.

Your laptop is newer than most. Some stability improvements you can do to check.
  • update your BIOS from v F.53 to F.59 Rev.A 79.8 MB Feb 21, 2023
  • update your linux kernel to 6.1 to align with newer devices via MXPI; search for kernels
Once upgraded, see if the same screen glitches remain. If tearing remains, might need to enable the TearFree option in xorg file. Check here --> https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ ... leshooting
Mixed of desktops and laptops, I have a Gravis Ultrasound Classic card (unfortunately its ISA-slot based) ... - I must be a dino. :popcorn:
Running on my DesktopPC - MX-23.4 AHS with latest Kernel: 6.12.17-1-liquorix-amd64

Possibly also try using MX Tweak to set the graphics driver to intel with tearfree instead of the default kernel driver "modesetting". This gets rid of tearing, but Google Earth didn't work with it last time I checked.

Or you could try turning off compton in MX Tweak to see if that helps.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
