Papirus update doesn't finish (MX-21.3-KDE)

#1 Post by dings »

I ran the updates that Discover came up with. The update for Papirus never finishes. After a while I canceled the update in Discover. It gave me a warning, so I canceled the canceling. But nothing happened. Then I canceled the update in Discover anyway. I did a reboot. The Papirus update is still there.

Here https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 47#p704647 I found this command:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-mark hold papirus-icon-theme
Siehe <https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Dpkg/FAQ>.
E: Unterprozess dpkg --set-selections hat Fehlercode zurückgegeben (2)
E: Ausführen von dpkg fehlgeschlagen. Sind Sie root?
(I don't know why it is in German. The default language is American English.)
There is a block from PID 7152, which is the mx-packageinstaller with 0% CPU activity and 194K memory. So I closed the packageinstaller and ran the command again.

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-mark hold papirus-icon-theme
[sudo] Passwort für (...):
papirus-icon-theme auf Halten gesetzt.
No warning this time, but the Papirus update is still in Discover.

How can I repair or get rid of the upate?
(I recently switched from Windows, my skills are very basic.)

the papirus-icon-theme updates can take forever as they are highly compressed.

I would update that package from the commandline. discover doesn't give you much feedback.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install papirus-icon-theme
http://www.youtube.com/runwiththedolphin
lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 - MX-23
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Thank you!
I ran the command

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt install papirus-icon-theme
[sudo] Passwort für (...):
Paketlisten werden gelesen… Fertig
Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut… Fertig
Statusinformationen werden eingelesen… Fertig
papirus-icon-theme allegedly is up-to-date already.
But in Discover it is still there. The version info there differs from the command line info, which reads in Discover: "20230104 -> 20230301".
Attempting to close Discover gives the warning again. And last time it was still there after reboot.

I'm guessing that your hold is still in place, and discover is not respecting it.

release the hold, and install the package again.

I released the hold and tried to install the package again on command line. It still is up to date. Nothing new installed.
In Discover it is still stuck.

In Discover it adds the package-info "20230104 -> 20230301".
apt seems to know nothing about these numbers.

This or similar problems sometimes seem to occur with Discover and papirus or themes. I have found no solution. I tried one command I found:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt policy papirus-icon-theme
[sudo] password for (...):
papirus-icon-theme:
  Installed: 20210802-1~mx21+2
  Candidate: 20210802-1~mx21+2

        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Trust apt (and "MX Package Installer" as gui).

Is there a way to switch Update Info in systemtray in MX-21-KDE from Discover to MX Package Installer?

Check the settings for Discover. It's getting the latest 20230301 releases somehow for the the theme. Those are not in any Debian or MX repo--maybe the PPA. It may be adding the PPA just in Discover.

https://repology.org/project/papirus-ic ... e/versions

It's also worrisome that it's decided to go full Third Reich on you and only speak in German.

You can run MX Updater in KDE, no issues, as far as I know.

In Discover settings there are only Bullseye repos plus Softmaker.
May a flatpak app be the cause? (I have 6 or so).

MX Updater is not available in KDE. An I cannot find it in MX Package Installer.
