Well, we now know that everything is not the same. The devs at Kubuntu have obviously modified their version of Evolution in such a manner, that its data exports are no longer compatible with the standard version. In your situation, where you need access to your old emails, going forward with Thunderbird is probably the best outcome for a bad situation.I have uninstalled Evolution completely and installed it new using the MX Package Manager. Then I restored Evolution from a backup file. This file was made by Evolution under Kubuntu. Everything still the same. I get the message about new emails. But they do not appear in the inbox.

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: Evolution
Thank you very much for your help!
I guess your explanation is right. And Thunderbird is not that bad. I can live with it.
Kind regards,
Sigurd
