Hi there,
I'm trying to install MX Linux on one of my tablets that currently has Windows 8.1 installed.
I originally had issues where it would just show a black screen after GRUB.
I pressed 'e' to edit the command line and added 'noacpi acpi=off', removing 'quiet no splash' and it now shows up with this:

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Issue when installing MX Linux after GRUB
Re: Issue when installing MX Linux after GRUB
Just to make it clear: Are you able to boot to live session ? (or this is already on live session?)
You can try the AHS version that also has a more recent kernel.
If the black screen is on live session and if the Graphics card is Intel :
(without acpi etc.. just leave the others as they are)
You can try the AHS version that also has a more recent kernel.
If the black screen is on live session and if the Graphics card is Intel :
Code: Select all
i915.invert_brightness=1

Thank you for your post!
I'm currently using Ventoy to boot into the ISO, which leads me into the welcome screen, where I can change my keyboard, timezone, do a mem test and so fourth.
However, when I go to install MX-21.2.1 386 it just leads to a black screen.
I have added your brightness solution outside of the linux parameter and still have the same issue.
Anything I am doing incorrectly?
Thanks!
Re: Issue when installing MX Linux after GRUB
In fact, Ventoy sometimes works and sometimes not. Therefore not always reliable and not one of the officially recommended ways.
Best is to try with a separate usb stick. You can use Rufus on Windows.
(and, again, that parameter is just for Intel, won't work with AMD or Nvidia graphics cards)

I am using Intel and currently trying to install MX on a 32-bit tablet.
I had to use Ventoy because when I try to write the ISO to Rufus it mentions the image is GRUB 2.04 and the installation files only include for GRUB 2.06.
However, it let's me bypass this until it mentions something about Syslinux being in 6.02 and the installation files for 6.03 Afterwards it tells me to cancel the operation, resulting in a failed usable USB.
Thanks again for your help! I am new to Linux installations, so bare with me if I don't make any sense.
Re: Issue when installing MX Linux after GRUB
Hello,
I have made some progress.. I think?
After trying noacpi this time with no splash, it now comes up with an EFI message saying: "unable to switch EFI into virtual mode"
What does this mean?

Re: Issue when installing MX Linux after GRUB
Does it have a "Secure Boot" option in its Bios? (If yes, disable, save, exit).

Thanks for your reply! I have only just been notified that you had responded.
However, yes, Secure Boot option has already been disabled. I did this prior to trying to install MX Linux and still facing same issues.
Looking forward to your message.
Re: Issue when installing MX Linux after GRUB
Normally Rufus offers to download the required Syslinux files and continue .. Whatever... You can try writing in "dd" mode (it asks that before beginning process) that will just be a readonly stick (won't be able to use the free space for other things.. but it will do the job to boot and/or install.)
Or, maybe on another machine you can use MX (or antiX) Live Usb Maker .. Or on another distro say, Mint's or any *buntu's usb maker software are also known to work (readonly again).
Just btw. on Windows disable "Fast Startup" (as it keeps devices engaged for it doesn't really shutdown)
