Upgrade 5.25.5
Upgrade 5.25.5
I was looking in the KDE forum and did not find something similar, so I open this thread, I hope not to bother.
I was always curious to upgrade Plasma KDE from 5.20.5 to a higher version. After trying it on several machines without breaking the system, I was able to do it. It is done with this tutorial that I leave the link. This is not official MX but a personal test that has worked for several users on different machines with no problems detected so far.
Just click here (it's in Spanish).

No todos ignoramos las mismas cosas.

The maintainer of that OBS repo is also a Debian KDE packager, so it's not somebody that doesn't know what they're doing, either.

Re: Upgrade 5.25.5
Does this procedure work for KDE installed over XFCE?
Versions of MX & KDE that I'm using are the same as u have mentioned.

You don't install KDE "over" XFCE; it's installed alongside, then you can remove XFCE if you wish.
And, yes, it will also work to upgrade KDE that way.

Re: Upgrade 5.25.5
Hello.
I have successfully upgraded to 5.25.5 and I am not satisfied (i repeat that everything is OK).
How to restore the previous state of the system?
I have a Snapshot recording that is 10 days old and in ISO format. Do I have to create a USB Live media and reinstall the desired system/image from it or is there another way?
thanks

Yes, this is how I use snapshot, for install. I put it on USB stick and install from it.neogeo wrote: Mon Nov 21, 2022 11:38 pm How to restore the previous state of the system?

Note, you will return you system like it was 10 days ago. It would be better, if you would create snapshot just before you decided to change your system. Also, probably better, or as good, you should create backup with say Timeshift, just before you upgraded to 5.25.5. You can then easy return to previous state with Timeshift, without the need to reinstall the system with snapshot iso.

@Buck Fankers
THX a lot.
I have returned own ISO by reinstalling system and repaired Grub after that. So my MX Plasma now working as i wish.

Re: Upgrade 5.25.5
I'm hardly an expert, but I did check in the MXPI (MX Package Installer), and under "Desktop Environments" there is listed each of the standard MX desktop environments (e.g. KDE, Xfce and some others).Sudhakarrdy wrote: Tue Jan 10, 2023 4:36 pmHow to remove XFCE?Stevo wrote: Mon Nov 21, 2022 4:22 pm You don't install KDE "over" XFCE; it's installed alongside, then you can remove XFCE if you wish.
Now Xfce should be 'greyed out' for you in the MXPI. If so, you can click on the box for Xfce, and a button at the bottom right should highlight and say, "Uninstall". Then just click on that button, and it should uninstall Xfce using the normal MX routines.
If it is NOT greyed out, I'm not sure. Come back to the Forum and ask.
