Installing Epson V330 Photo Scanner

#1 Post by vuitreviejo »

This kind of sits on the hardware and software boundary, and it's a comment, not a howto, but thought it might be helpful to others struggling with using an Epson scanner. I'm still using MX19.4, so this could be version-specific. Anyway: Discovered there are .deb driver packages for Epson scanners and decided to try installing one. There are a lot of posts about problems with the installation out there, but found a couple of helpful ones on this forum. First attempt was with the 64-bit imagescan3 package, and after a fair amount of thrashing around, figured out my system didn't have a back-end for it. Then I did what I should have done to begin with, going through the (somewhat confusing) Epson support site to see which package they said would work with my scanner. Turned out to be 64-bit imagescan2. After clearing away my fumbling artifacts and eradicating imagescan3, installed imagescan2 and it works just fine using default settings in epson2.conf. GIMP can find it, so it's possible to scan directly into it for editing.
