Unknown user offered by lightdm greeter.(SOLVED)

#1 Post by GuiGuy »

My greeter offers several users but one of them does not work and the user manager
does not see it.
How can I remove it from the greeter?

Did you try removing the user with MX User Manager?
Production: MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: MX-25 Fluxbox, ThinkPad X1 Carbon gen 9 with i7
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Yes, but MX user manager does not know of it.
The manager does not offer to do anything at all with it.

Does the id command show anything? With its name, like :

Code: Select all

id huck
Also does that user have a directory in /home/ ?

Thanks, Huck,
It does not have a directory.
But
$ id nova
uid=64060(nova) gid=64060(nova) groups=64060(nova)
Looks like a clue?

Are you using OpenStack services or a personal cloud? Those can depend on nova-compute which creates the nova user.
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

The id number is interesting.. Whatever, you can try

Code: Select all

sudo deluser nova

Also have a check:

Code: Select all

sudo visudo
If there are any remaining lines , something like:

Code: Select all

nova    ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL
delete , save, close.

Edit: Probably it's due to something like Tim mentioned above (hence that interesting id number).

Does user nova appear in /var/lib/AccountsService/users/nova?

If so, the "SystemAccount" value in the nova file should be "false" (all non-system accounts should have that value; root will be "true").
