Brand new MXFluxbox install - Wallpaper questions

#1 Post by unklebonehead »

This morning I did a nuke & pave on my MX FLuxbox in order to start over. Since it was previously installed over the top of AV Linux. Figured this would be the best way to get back to the basics and learn Fluxbox from the ground up. I've got questions about the wallpaper handler Nitrogen.

1.) It lets me add new directories just fine but will not display those directories. Is there a way to do a force refresh of the wallpapers that are displayed in Nitrogen?
2.) Other times I've Nitrogen (other desktops/window mangers) it allows me to set different wallpapers for different monitors. But with MX Fluxbox it is only 1 that spans both monitors. Is this a fluxbox thing itself or is it a setting specific to MX version of fluxbox?

1. Not just close and restart, or log out/in? I've never had trouble with this mself.
2. I don't really know since I've never used multiple monitors. I seem to recall seeing solutions to the question--do you see a "Screen" pull-down menu at the bottom of the main screen that displays the available wallpapers next to the scale menu on the left edge?

Hi Jerry.
Ive done log out/in and even rebooted.
There is only the scaling options, set color then preferences and the apply button at the bottom. On others there is a button with screen1, screen2 and full options.

I did find a solution on the Arch wiki says to delete the nitrogen directory in the .config so it will make a new one on the next app start. Did that and I was able to get it to show my added directories.

Only thing I havent tried yet is to uninstall and reinstall Nitrogen.

Unintall/Install of nitrogen didnt fix it.

Could the mxfb-separate-backgrounds be affecting it?

I cant get the separate backgrounds to do anything. Click on it and it does nothing.
I'm gonna go back to KDE or i3. I dont think fluxbox is gonna work for my situation as much as I want it too.

Okey dokey.

For the next reader of this thread: you have to relaunch the separate backgrounds app to cancel it.

I have shown corresponding pictures before, dual monitor operation under Fluxbox with Nitrogen is no problem.
Whether one image over both, or each monitor its own.

or each monitor its own.

edit PS: Preventive: The Tint2 panel(s) can also be distributed on the monitors as you wish
