Re: ulauncher
And now I will mark this thread as solved. I've installed synapsis and am finding it excellent (thanks manyroads).
Re: ulauncher
I went to the download site and note that there is no explanation as to what version of Ubuntu or Debian this deb file is supposed to be compatible with.Stuart_M wrote: Thu Feb 10, 2022 2:33 pm ...
I agree that installations should preferably be from the MX Linux repositories. That said, he downloaded ulanucher_5.14.3_all.deb from https://ulauncher.io/ which is a Ubuntu Debian file and shows several different customizations that you may find useful.
Since Ubuntu is not generally using the same version of dependencies as debian for any particular release, I'm not sure if this advice to simply install deb or add that ppa (which might be added by the deb file installation anyway) is safe. Unless of course someone has actually checked the source and all dependencies are confirmed to be satisfied from within Debian repos (mx21/bullseye ). What kind of dependencies are in that ppa? are any of those packages going to replace any from mx/bullseye?
Can those who have installed it attest to its compatibility? Not saying it is definitely incompatible, but has it been checked?
Even if I were using an Ubuntu-based distro, I would want to know which release that deb/ppa corresponded with.

Re: ulauncher
Hi, I use Ulauncher in other distros as well as MX due to its simplicity, great UI and functionality - it's perfect for my business workflow. In MX, I've had to install it using the official .deb package as it's not in the MX Repos. I would love to see Ulauncher in the MX Repos so I know it has been properly vetted and I see both Rofi and Alfred are there (which I used to use) but understand that Ulauncher may not be a priority. That said, I've never experienced any issues with it affecting my MX OS thus far.
I'm curious to know what the issues the devs found with it though. If there is something dodgy with it, I'd go back to using Alfred.

Re: ulauncher
@Staempunk if I remember right there wasn’t anything dodgy with it, it was an issue building properly.
I can’t remember what it was but I can take a look at it sometime next week.

Re: ulauncher
I "launched" this thread and following various posts from other board members, I have marked it solved as I am happy to use the existing repo hosted, Synapse.
Perhaps a new thread needs to be started mod?
