Acer Swift 3 - No network devices available SOLVED

#1 Post by angusinalberta »

Hello. I'm new to this forum although I have used MX since version 17.

My problem is with my new laptop, an Acer Swift 3, that I've had for a few days. I installed MX-21 in a dual-boot configuration. As the heading states my installation has "No network devices available".

Here's what happened:
1. I fooled around with the live usb for an hour or so to check for any problems. At this point the wifi was working OK.
2. I was called away for several hours. When I returned the battery was dead. After charging I found that the wifi had stopped working.
3. I installed MX-21 the next day, hoping that the glitch was in the usb stick. However there is still no wifi.
4. I booted into Windows to check if the wifi was still working there. It's still OK under windows.
5. I created a live Mint usb and no wifi.
6. Currently MX-21-AHS is running. Still no wifi

Any suggestions?
Angus

Sometimes when a laptop loses power completely and then you do a cold restart, services like wifi need to be manually activated. I suggest that you press the flight Mode / Wifi toggle key on your Swift to see if wifi becomes active.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thanks for the clue. I couldn't follow your instruction exactly, no obvious key for airplane mode.
Instead I turned airplane mode on in Windows.
That did the trick!
Thanks again.

For future reference, here's the manual for your Swift:

https://global-download.acer.com/GDFile ... ER&SC=PA_4

Page 17 of the manual will show you what the Airplane Mode / Wifi key looks like.
