I don't why you are using he in quotes; I am speaking to the whole forum so need to use a third person pronoun.

As for root, I am confused.
These drivers and usb files need root permissions to function. This is correct.
Are you saying that you need to be logged in as root to use the scanner or are you running the xsane program as root ?

You shouldn't have to be logged in as or running a program as root to get the drivers working.
Sounds like something else is configured wrong.

What are the locations/permissions on the files in question ?

Another idea might be, that your regular user account doesn't have permission to scan. I noticed my user account is a member of the group "scanner" which "saned" is a member of. Maybe the problem has something to do with that.

Code: Select all

themh@hobelforce212:~
$ cat /etc/group | grep sane
scanner:x:118:saned,themh
saned:x:119:
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Bonjour,
Sorry guys, I haven't visited the Forum for a whileI
Thank you for your posts.
@TasogareNoOkami
Do not be afraid. Language sometimes induces misunderstandings that are just that and nothing else. In any case, there was no malicious intent on my part...

As said above, and despite the great quality of MX Linux, the problems related to permissions, root, non root, user, group, things that are very quickly more than "boring" for those who are not used to - especially when it's just using a scanner and you have to turn around, lift the hood, and so on!- made me temporarily leave this great OS...
I'm waiting for a valid driver (64 bits).
One can always dream!
Kind regards.

$ lsusb
Bus 008 Device 002: ID 05d8:4002 Ultima Electronics Corp. Artec Ultima 2000 (GT6801 based)/Lifetec LT9385/ScanMagic 1200 UB Plus Scanner

$ sudo apt install xsane

$ sudo apt install simple-scan

www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx-backen ... e/sbfw.usb

$ sudo mkdir /usr/share/sane/gt68xx

/usr/share/sane/gt68xx

the lack of a solution for a familiar scanner made me write a small message
My native language is Russian
so
my hard
scanerBus 008 Device 002: ID 05d8:4002 Ultima Electronics Corp. Artec Ultima 2000 (GT6801 based)/Lifetec LT9385/ScanMagic 1200 UB Plus Scanner

you can find out by the command in the terminal
$ lsusb

we reinstall the packages if we didn't take care in advance
$ sudo apt install xsane

since my wife and granddaughter use the scanner, I additionally installed a simple program
$ sudo apt install simple-scan

download the firmware
http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx ... e/sbfw.usb

creating a folder
$ sudo mkdir /usr/share/sane/gt68xx

move the downloaded sbfw.usb file to
/usr/share/sane/gt68xx

uncomment a line override "mustek-scanexpress-1200-ub-plus in the file /etc/sane.d/gt68xx.conf
