Spacer

#1 Post by barnaby »

Recently I was recommended to install and use a program called spacer. I have a laptop which runs MX 19.4, always kept up to date. Via synaptic I found and installed spacer. No problem, and I find it very useful. So I went to my desktop computer, which also runs MX 19.4, kept up to date. Again I searched for spacer via synaptic. No sign of it. That seems very strange to me. Not a problem since I use the laptop most of the time. Still, it seems odd. Just a comment.

Are they using the same MX repo mirrors? Run MX Repo Manager on both computers and look at the default page.

Not quite sure what you mean there. It just gives me a list of mirrors around the world. When I install I just accept what ever mirror comes up. I do not know how to find out which one was used for each install.

Are you sure they didn’t mean “stacer”?

Edit: I see you said you found it via Synaptic on one machine. Odd because I can’t find “spacer” on Repology, in our Repo or the Debian Repo.

You’ll want to switch repos then, because it exists for sure.

I am sorry for my silly mistake. I have now checked for stacer (as opposed to spacer) on my desktop computer, and it was there of course. I will no go away to hide my face in shame. Thanks for the help.

@barnaby no reason to do that, smile, it happens.

Just this morning as I was testing something I was like “why isn’t the GPU passthrough working in this VM?!”… well it was because I wasn’t even IN a VM!

Since spacer is a real word versus a nonsense one that still is quite similar, the confusion is very understandable, IMO.
