So would you recommend making 'efi=runtime' a one of the default boot parameters on the next ISO update?
For preempt_rt kernels I haven't found another way, to allow access to the efivars. Not sure why it is disabled in the first place with preempt_rt kernels. Probably they removed anything what not seems to be necessarily needed, during runtime. So if you do not see any performance/runtime related issue, I would probably add it as boot parameter within /etc/default/grub - otherwise a big howto install grub might do.

Hi,

You need to move the command up a line with the other grub defaults.. so:

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="threadirqs noresume efi=runtime"
Revert the

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="efi=runtime"
line to what is was before, save and reboot

Hmm.., efi=runtime is still missing.
And this looks ok:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="efi=runtime"
B/c both GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX and GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT would normally get combined into
a boot-paramter line. So not sure, but perhaps try what @AVLinux has proposed.
and add it to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT parameter line.

Seems to me the generated grub.cfg menu is not loaded but another one instead.
post this:

Code: Select all

grep linux /boot/grub/grub.cfg
which will show the used boot parameter within the genrated grub.cfg menu.

OK, the generated one is not used. It still uses the old one.
And you have a grub.cfg.new. This indicates an error somewhere . The last time I have seen
suche grub.cfg.new was when having used Grub Customizer.
Did you have installed and used Grub Customizer?

OK, I can reporoduce, the the grub.cfg.new is actually a working one.
Simplest would be this:

Code: Select all

sudo cp /boot/grub/grub.cfg.new /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Reboot and run again, which should now work:

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
