ExpressVPN MX 19.3 64bit - Can't get daemon to start

#1 Post by lefo »

Hi. I'm very new to MX Linux, and I love it! I used to use ExpressVPN with Linux Mint, but when I try to install it I can't get the daemon to run. I get:
$ expressvpn activate
Cannot connect to expressvpnd daemon.

It seems that the expressvpn daemon is not running. Please run "sudo service expressvpn restart" to start it.

If the problem persists, please contact us.
I attempted the suggested command line, but it doesn't work. I have followed the directions on viewtopic.php?f=108&t=60972 & https://www.forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic ... 5&p=617754, but nothing's working. I understand that it works great on systemd, but I'm trying to use the default init for MX Linux.

Is anyone else having this problem, or can someone supply a step-by-step resolution? I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks!

Lefo (new guy)

Based on the forum links in your post, you installed the program from mxpi popular apps tab?

I cannot find the file mxpi_expressvpn_pm.tar.gz to be able to complete that step. I was able to get the expressvpn.pm file and use other instructions to get it to the mxpi>pop menu. It shows "ExpressVPN and sysVinit scripts".

I've removed it twice and installed it three times. I get the same response when I try to activate Expressvpn. By the way, thanks for helping.

It's attached to the mentioned post #2 in that thread, which you might need to download.

First, thank you very much! I promise I didn't see that link for the file before. It worked perfectly! My MX Linux Life is now complete. ;) However, it appears that I was blacklisted the minute that my ExpressVPN was activated. I've since rebooted and tried to send a thank you message, and I get the following:
Forbidden. Your IP belongs to a high spam risk network. Please, try again without VPN.
Well, that sucks. But, I can understand the need to keep the forum safe.

I really appreciate the help! This is a very fast distro on my 9 year old laptop!

Have a good night and a great week ahead.

If you can select a different VPN server that will give you a different IP address.

Trying another server. Let's see if this will work. Yup! It did. Learned a few things today. :) Thanks again!
