I answered the first, but don't know much about it. And even less about Audacity--Google the error message and see what you come up with.

Jerry,
I don't think you understood what I was saying.
If I log in a pi user pi is the owner of the .cache folder.
If I log in as my new user root is the owner of the folder. Shouldn't it be my new user?

I guess, but it's hard to see how that happened so hard to suggest correcting besides the right-click method I suggested.

You also might just use MX User Manager to create a new one, being careful to look at all the options.

Have you tried the recent version of Raspian, now re-named Raspberry Pi OS? You will find that is a bit slower than it used to be, as extra things have been added.
I tested this Beta on a Pi 3 B, and although it is much slower than on a Pi 4 or 400, it was still just about useable. It felt faster than Raspian on the same hardware to me.

No, I'm using an updated Rasbian installation, possibly that's why it's faster on PI3B as you say?
What worries me is that MXrpi does not seem to consume much memory or processor according to Conky, but it takes a long time to start the programs, and for example Palemon loads 100% of the swap file, when it has 300MB of free ram...

Maybe it's just not going to work on your system for some reason.

Whoa, now I see where the download spike is coming from. Not only was there an item in Google News, but I just watched two excellent and highly laudatory videos by leepsvideo with many useful observations and suggestions:

Love his lead in the second: "This is one of the best OS experiences on Pi 4 / 400 and it’s still in beta"

He was unsure why desktop icons didn't appear, so I have commented on iDesk, the help files, and the link to the Wiki.

BTW: I put up on GDrive the DeepL translations of "First Steps" for review, and posted for help on Facebook.

After snooping around on the clock problem, I'm testing a little script that I have being run when the system boots -- thanks to the new MX Tool: Job Scheduler.

Code: Select all

#! /bin/bash

service stp stop
ntpd -gq
service ntp start
Have it in /usr/bin and it didn't crash the system when I rebooted so we'll see if it works after the system is off for 12 hours.
