how to use Ledgerwallet

#1 Post by rdotex »

I need to install a "Ledger Live App" on my desktop so I can use the "Ledgerwallet Ledger Nano S". Anyone can tell me how to do this?

Here's the actual file title: file:///home/Ron/Downloads/ledger-live-desktop-2.20.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage

I don't know how to install it.

I don't know how to install it.
AppImages are supposed to be run - not to be installed.
So, you need to execute the Appimage file.
Do you know how to run (execute) a file, which you certainly trust to run?

Search the user manual, the wiki, the FAQs page on the website and the forum in the future and you'll find that the majority of your questions have already been answered so you don't need to post in the forum: https://mxlinux.org/wiki/applications/appimages/.
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.

Sorry to be so much bother! But, I have tried to search for answers and failed, perhaps due to using the wrong search term(s)? Some of us 'old farts' have that problem often.

Now, I found how to 'install' the appimage, but there seems to be a new problem: when I try to run the program, I get the message 'Device attached, but connection failed.' And, searching for a solution to that, I am told that I need to: "Create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/50-yourdevicename.rules."

But, I cannot find any info on how to do that!

Would it be too much trouble for someone to guide me on doing that?

When you download the appimage, you right click on it. Select "Properties", then go to "Permissions" tab. Then click on the box to make it executable, where it says "Allow this file to run as a program".
Then you need to go to your package installer and install the udev rules for Ledger, so the appimage can communicate with your hardware wallet.
