flatpak itself is pretty small, but some of those runtimes can be quite large, and since they allow more than one runtime, you can have several of those things. it adds up after a while.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

I went through the list of Appfinder problems that Chris posted.

Brightness Controller Simple did nothing
--jb: works here
Compton did nothing
--discussed below
Debian Reference Guide opens In Firefox
--OK now with Palemoon as preferred browser
There are entries for both Claws Mail and Mail Reader
--discussed below
MX Fluxbox deems superfluous
--as discussed below, brings items we need
MX User Manual may not be entirely relevant
--Section 5 is the help document for Updater, if nothing else--Wrong, I pasted that into the Wiki to which Updater points. So: any need to include MX Users Manual? I'm thinking that Chris may be right...
nitrogen does nothing
--works here (it never did on your system, right?); besides, if I try to remove it it wants to take mxfb-goodies with it
Screens warns 'XScreenSaver daemon not running'
--that warning (which has been there for years) ends with a question: "Launch it now?"
Tint2 does nothing
--discussed below
Web browser opens Firefox
--OK now with Palemoon as preferred browser
1st entry for Xfce Terminal is actually for terminal preferences
--we haven't changed the desktop file but it's missing the whole Comment section that we have in MX. Maybe try a reinstall?

Just to keep track
AGENDA

Lost causes?
--Plymouth -- not for Final
--bluetooth (losing service when logging out/in, requiring rebooting)

Big causes
--how fragile are some of the changes against upstream changes in mx-fluxbox, etc.? In progress
--full Palemoon testing: should it replace Firefox ESR, what setup does it need (links on the toolbar, for example), any extensions OOTB such as an ad-blocker, etc.?
--the group of conkies that have been reported not to work: need testing and fixing, or removal (?). List below.
--update and testing of skel (not sure all of my recent changes are there, especially in little places like the clipit rc)
--volumeicon: does scrolling over it for volume change work? does here
--finalize documentation (Chris posted soundfix and first steps documents >> Bookshelf)
--final review of components: anything we don't need, anything important missing?
--NEW: systray clock takes 20-30 seconds to update when system boots up after being off for a while (at least for tint2)

Little causes
--not sure ATM

I see I never posted the list of conkies that didn't work that a Facebook user reported:

--Asq (both)
--Core Blue
--Common
--KOo Full
--Notify
--Side Diagonal

I haven't looked at this yet, just want to get it in front of our eyes.

One other thing to add.
I noticed that in the startup file that there is a reference to xfce4-screensaver but I don't think you can get that in the repo.

My testing:

2 noshows: Core Blue, KOo Full
1 deformed: Notify

--all others work as expected here. That's pretty good, only 3 out of 50 or so; not going to work on the problem ones.

Re:nitrogen

The problem was that once locale was changed away from US, it wasn't possible to change wallpaper, even from the right-click menu. With the locale set to UK, I can now use the right-click menu to change wallpaper OK, but nitrogen from the menu does nothing.

Launching nitrogen from the terminal gives the same error as previously reported.

There is something screwy going on with locale settings as I get an error message at the top of the terminal screen every time I open it.
