I performed system updates yesterday, installed Kodi and a Kodi build, and now I have lost my sound hardware driver. Reinstalled Pulseaudio and Alsamixer from Synaptic. Presently only have sound through my bluetooth speaker.
Can someone tell me how to get you the info needed on my hardware and then help me completely reinstall my sound drivers and refresh any config files? Would very much appreciate some help.
(Kodi has been removed. Never encountered this before...)
Note: MX Select Sound says sound card is PCH and driver is HDA - Intel - HDA PCH
Sound works with the TEST function.
in Bluetooth but not through PC speakers.
The only output device available is Dummy Output
Volume Control does not see my sound card.
Lost sound Acer Intel I7 Laptop - Reset?
Re: Lost sound Acer Intel I7 Laptop - Reset?
What about Alsamixer from Menu? F5 "all" ... (and F6 "select sound card" ) ?
And as always: "Quick System Info" from Menu.

I tried that yesterday without success. It let me select the sound card but it kept reverting back after telling it to apply the changes. I have reinstalled some things and will go back and try that again.
Re: Lost sound Acer Intel I7 Laptop - Reset?
Run in a terminal and see if your sound card's available again. You may need to reboot after running that though I don't think so.
If that doesn't work try uninstalling kodi. If that doesn't work post your Quick System Info and the list of recent updates. (I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times that Linux system updates actually caused problems, but anything's possible.)
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/rebuild_dkms_packages.sh

Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.
Re: Lost sound Acer Intel I7 Laptop - Reset?
Ran that as root, and it executed. No change. Rebooted. No change.
Only device shown in Volume Control is Dummy Output. AlsaMixer comes up showing Pulse Audio as device. I can use F6 to select my sound card, but it doesn't change. I also changed the sound card after running AlsaMixer as root. When I open AlsaMixer again, it is back to saying PulseAudio - no change takes place.
I just rebooted into Windows 10, and that system immediately identified an audio problem, so it may well be some sort of hardware issue in my laptop. I will go into the bios and look around and try booting into a live Linux session from USB.
Thanks for the assistance, but at the moment I don't think it's a software issue. I'll come back here when I know anything new.
