[SOLVED] gthumb not displaying videos

fresh install of MX19
added CODECS
gthumb wont show
h264, h265.vp9, vp8, theora ..

any work around / solution?

Googling shows this as a known issue on numerous distros (ie. arch, mint). FWIW I did not read any of the responses.

is gthumb supposed to view videos? traditionally its an image viewer. and I see no mention of videos on the gthumb project page.

That was my first thought, too @d_o I've always thought gthumb was only intended for photo viewing not video. Personally I use celluloid for videos with my grandsons.

it actually supports many media file types,
useful for going through large number of mp3s etc

Debian's description of the app only covers images. Perhaps Debian does not enable video or audio.

On what distro do those media work for you, and what version of gthumb?

It was already asked, but on what Distros (and desktop environment) can you attest to it working like you said?

gthumb has plugins and extensions, maybe that's where the answer lies, or there is another package providing this capability.
