I agree with that, but I change the icons to Masalla (there will be other good ones of course), so much better.

Research on the VideoLAN forum reveals it's been a bug for a while, and one that is unlikely to be fixed.

As a workaround, you can go to Tools>Preferences > Video > Output and change it from Automatic to XVideo output (XCB). This fixes the problem, but does increase CPU usage.

I will mark it solved.

Thanks! This has been annoying me for a long time. Now I can use VLC again without having to kill its zombie process after each instance if I forget to close it via its dropdown menu. Thank you very much.
