Font rendering issue
Font rendering issue
Just installed MX Linux KDE on a new machine (Asus Zenbook UM433IQ) with Ryzen 7 4700u processor. It has nVidia MX350 graphics card too. I have not installed the nvidia drivers yet. The issue I am having is font rendering. Font looking very blurry. I have tried changing font config but it has not helped much. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Font rendering issue
it actually says: "driver: amdgpu" and then "FAILED: ati". I have that text about ati too actually, I don't think it's related to the font issuedaakbahok wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2020 4:38 pm I noticed this line in the system info
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: amdgpu FAILED:
could that be something related to the font issue?
Re: Font rendering issue
Rendered font looks blurry. I tried to change font settings KDE settings (hinting, DPI etc) but still looks the same.
Re: Font rendering issue
With new hardware like this, it's often worthwhile to test a newer kernel. I found this for example: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= ... 500U-Tests (Linux 5.8 Bringing Some Performance Boosts For AMD Renoir Graphics)
For the moment the 5.8 kernel is still a bit experimental for MX Linux (trouble with building nvidia modules for example), but that might change quickly. You could test the 5.8 Liquorix kernel by installing linux-image-5.8.0-7.1-liquorix-amd64 and linux-headers-5.8.0-7.1-liquorix-amd64 from the MX Test Repo tab in MX Package Installer.
Kernel 5.7 may already bring improvements for you, as people here seem to say. Then you can also choose the Debian Backports 5.7 kernel instead of the Liquorix one.
I can't promise it will solve your font issues, but longer term you will want a newer kernel anyway.

Re: Font rendering issue
Thanks a lot. I will give it a try although at this point I am not looking for performance boost but the solve the font issue.tony37 wrote: Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:41 pm With new hardware like this, it's often worthwhile to test a newer kernel. Re: Font rendering issue
Is the native resolution of your screen 1920 x 1080?
Re: Font rendering issue
Yes, it is.
