MX 19 Repository: The Kodi Thread

I uninstalled the flatpak using the according option of the MX-Package-Installer, which I used for installation, too.

Could there be a misunderstanding?
I don't want to uninstall the flatpak support of MX.
I just tried to uninstall the flatpak version of Kodi in the way as described above.

Replacing Kodi 18.4 by 18.7 still doesn't work.
Does anybody know what might prevent Kodi 18.7 from being installed?
Can it be something is left after the uninstallation of the flatpak version of 18.4?
What could it be?

I think you are right Stevo. I did some reading and it appears that Kodi needs at least openGL 2.0 for hardware decoding. I think my Intel 915 Graphics only supports openGL 1.4. Maybe Kodi 18.5 won't run with less than openGL 2.0.

I used to use a command line entry to force Kodi to use my graphics card. I haven't done that in awhile. Maybe 18.5 still supports it. I don't know. I'll see what I find out on the Kodi forum.

I'm not even sure what openGL is. But I think I can get it to at least 2.0 with an AGP graphics card.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. I'll read up on it.

FYI, I gave up on Kodi 18.x on my 32-bit Pentium 4. I went back to 17.6 and Kodi now works again. I locked/held the Kodi packages so they will not update.

18.x works fine on my 64-bit versions of MX.

Sounds like Kodi, higher than 18.4, is not supported by the 32-bit version of MX.
Actually, I don't think, it's a hardware related issue, because I also have a 32-bit version of Bodhi 5.1 installed on this very same machine
and on Bodhi there's a Kodi 18.8 currently installed and running great.
Let me compare the Kodi packages for both systems:
Here are the packages installed on Bodhi (for Kodi 18.8 ) :

And now the ones installed on MX (for Kodi 18.7 - Version 18.8 is not available, yet).

Removing kodi-data didn't help.

Can somebody please help?
I've been working on this issue for months now, but I still don't get Kodi 18.7 (or 18.8 ) installed (well, actually it can be installed, but it doesn't run).
I uninstalled the flatpak of Kodi 18.4 (I'm pretty sure, I did it properly) which seems to be the only one running on MX 19.2 and installed Kodi 18.7 from the Test Repo tab of the MX Package installer.
Trying to start Kodi from the main menu of MX ends up in an instant crash of Kodi without any message.
When I try to start Kodi from the terminal, I get this message:

So, what can I do to make Kodi 18.7 or 18.8 run on MX, please?

What you could try is install MX anew on a different harddrive, and then first install Kodi through MXPI and see if it wishes to run. If it does then something on the current install is botching it up.

I have successfully installed Kodi version 2:18.5+dfsg1-1~mx19+2 using MX Package installer.
In CD ripping options two encoders are available: AAC and WMA.
I would like to use kodi-audioencoder-flac. It does not appear in the Kodi Add-on Repository.

On their website https://kodi.wiki/view/Ripping_CDs it states

"Adding audio encoders for Ubuntu

Audio encoders are now binary add-ons, but in Ubuntu they are not packaged with Kodi. All other official Kodi versions have these add-ons included with the default install. For Ubuntu, they must be installed through apt-get, similar to how PVR add-ons are installed. In the future this will be something the user can manage from within the Kodi GUI, but for now they must be installed outside of Kodi.

Note: If you don't already have the Team Kodi (team-xbmc) PPA added, then you will need to do so in order to install the audio encoders (see here). If you're not sure, you probably already have it installed, as that is how you normally install Kodi in the first place. Now I'm aware MX is Debian based and not Ubuntu but the instructions might apply as I cannot see Flac Encoder in download repository in Kodi Application.
Is it safe to add Team Kodi PPA or is there another way to install kodi-flac-encoder?

Failing this I will look for EAC or another suitable application, but I would like to try Kodi ripping in flac if it does not prove outrageously difficult.

Make a request in the package request subforum that the plugin be ported over from the PPA or upstream Debian (if there) for the MX repo. PPA's are the last resort you should try--many of them won't install or work.

Kodi 18.8 has now been backported from upstream Debian for the test repo, along with shairplay for some Apple wireless hardware support.
