System & Hardware Information

#1 Post by czubek »

I am a new User.

My signature contains an abridged version of my Quick System Info. I ask if someone would review and comment if more info is needed and/or can be removed.
ThinkPad X131e: MX-19.2, AMD E2-1800 APU, 8 GB RAM, 300 GB HDD, Radeon HD 7340, BCM4313

That is good info for your signature, but it is not enough information if you are looking for help.

If you need help with something, please explain your issue the best you can and post your full Quick System Info.

That's a good start and I have similar info in my signature, but when you post a query to the forum the other members really need the whole of the QSI output because it contains so much more useful information:

-- make, version and date of the bios
-- what drivers are currently loaded
-- which repos are in use
-- partition info
-- make and model of the motherboard
-- make and model of the computer
-- hard drive capacity

etc
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thank you both j2mcgreg and SwampRabbit. I may tweak my signature but will definitely include the QSI when seeking help.

Since you gave your system model number, anyone can look it up if they need to, so your signature is good to go in my opinion. Don't put the whole QSI in there for sure. ;)

I guess one thing you can do is put which version of MX you are using. MX-18, MX-19, MX-19 AHS.

You cannot put the whole QSI in there, there is not enough room that allows for that :)

Well yeah, maybe I should have said "don't try to put it in there" :lipsrsealed:

Thank you all again. From what I have read it is recommended that the QSI be copy and pasted into the post.

No. When you run Quick System Info, note the very last line just above press any key to close. It's already been copied to the clipboard for you and already been formatted for posting it the forum. If you just copy/paste the output you'll end up posting a huge block of unformatted text that's very difficult to read. As it's already on your clipboard you just paste. My signature links to a post with complete instructions for running Quick System Info and posting its results properly.
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.
