Maybe something here will help you to pinpoint this issue DOLPHIN_ORACLE…

1. Power on.
2. Reset the wonky colours on monitor 1 using the provided xrandr --output DP-1 --gamma 1:1:1 instruction.
3. Used the SYNAPTIC PACKAGE MANAGER to re-install MX-TWEAK.
4. Initiated MX-TOOLS.
5. Clicked on BRIGHTNESS SYSTRAY.
6. Clicked on the SOFTWARE (XRANDR) BRIGHTNESS icon.
7. The monitor’s colours immediately go haywire. I didn’t select anything, I didn’t click on SAVE. The slider appears to be at the 50% point. Moving the slider never returns the colours to their correct values.
8. Initiating MX-TWEAK shows this display:

9. The SOFTWARE (XRANDR) BRIGHTNESS slider is sitting at the 50% point (or thereabouts), and yet pointing to it causes 100 to pop up.

I’d be very happy to oblige with any further information that may be required.

I’d quite like to remove SOFTWARE (XRANDR) BRIGHTNESS from my panel - where do I go to change what is automatically loaded at power on?

Returning to the earlier question from STEVO asking for a naming suggestion – perhaps leave the existing BRIGHTNESS SYSTRAY wording but change the popup wording to (something like) Installs SOFTWARE (XRANDR) BRIGHTNESS icon in panel?

Well that GIMP image saved as XCF didn't display - but I was just wanting to show the slider position.
I expected that clicking on the PREVIEW button on a new posting would give me the same display as after clicking the SUBMIT button, but that is not what happens, I still get the "raw" version.

I think I know where the problem is (thanks for the verbose output on your xrandr BTW). Just got to get time to fix it in a way that stays fixed.

the slider on the brightness should be about half-way at 100% because you can go to 200% on the software brightness. kinda like going over 100% with pulseaudio.

I have been using the gamma reset command

Code: Select all

xrandr --output DP-1 --gamma 1:1:1
each day to fix the crazy colours on one of my two screens after power on.

Yesterday I stumbled across the SESSION AND STARTUP utility. I clicked on the APPLICATION AUTOSTART tab and unticked the BRIGHTNESS SYSTRAY utility to stop it being loaded at power on, and (yay!) no more daft monitor colours when I powered on this morning.

I did fix the problem with the brightness save feature (I think) so if you save a new brightness setting you shouldn't get the weird colors anymore.

I also think that you have fixed it DOLPHIN_ORACLE.
I clicked on the BRIGHTNESS SYSTRAY icon in MX TOOLS, the icon appeared in the system panel, I clicked on the icon - and my monitor's colours stayed sensible throughout.
Nice work!

Great thanks!

If you could edit the first post and add [solved] to the title that would be great.

Thanks for the help!
