To request new or updated software packages be added to the MX Repositories, please read these instructions. then post your request in the appropriate Package Requests/Status subforum for your version of MX here. (The packagers are going to want to know why you need 2.4.4 vs. 2.4.3 too, before they go through the work of updating the package to the newer version.)
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.

Welcome to the Forum! Since this is your first post, I want to make sure you understand that MX focuses on stability (starting with Debian itself) and does not try to carry all the very latest software versions.

on mX 19... 2.4.4 is actually available as a flatpak in mx package installer but the big 'we take no responsibility' sign puts me off flatpaks in general' ... as does their size

@OP: 2.4.4 is not even in Sid yet...

Instructions on building latest build are on the repo in the README: https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt

Also check the download page where I can see the 2.4.4 packages: https://launchpad.net/~openshot.develop ... ubuntu/ppa

I always stay in the repositories. Stable is the keyword here. You can build OpenShot 2.4.4 from the source codes if you must try out the newest version. It's just not guarantee, that's it's going to be stable here at MX.
