In the last 3 days, I installed in one desktop tower and in two laptops MX19 run in KDE mode only. For some strange reason, some apps - synaptic and some others - can only be launched by opening konsole, logging in as su, and then entering ' synaptic '.
Is there some way to run synaptic and other apps the usual way, by launching from the K menu and then simply entering the root password for apps that require root login?
[Does this odd way to launch some apps seem to be a bug only in KDE or something off about MX19 run in KDE mode?]
Forced to use konsole (as root) to launch synaptic, etc., etc.

If you edit your KDE menu does the command show synaptic or synaptic-pkexec?
I seem to recall that the KDE respin's developer notes said that certain apps weren't working from the menu and he gave instructions for running them, so that's a known issue with using KDE on MX, and as the only supported desktop environment for MX is Xfce fixing this issue is out of scope for the MX devs. (Unless I'm thinking of a different DE respin.) Is XFCE still on those machines? (I'd leave it on there, it only takes up a small fraction of the space that KDE does)
If so, do Synaptic and those other mystery, probably administrative, applications launch normally in that desktop?

While still having KDE software on my desktop tower computer, I switched to XFCE and had no trouble launching synaptic. Now I'll turn to one of the laptops and enter synaptic-pkexec in the edit box for the launcher for apps. I suspected what you wrote here, that it wasn't just ' synaptic ' but something else had to be in the K menu edit launch box for apps. A possible problem for me now is that when I installed MX19 on the two laptops, I was offered two different apps that handle the user log-in. I don't know the names of either of these but did see them when I picked, for one of the laptops, the one that perhaps won't let me switch to XFCE.JayM wrote: Sun Nov 17, 2019 8:15 pm If you edit your KDE menu does the command show synaptic or synaptic-pkexec?
