Hallo Peter,

IMHO for Debian the missing package is not called gtk2-perl but libgtk2-perl. So still

Code: Select all

sudo apt install libgtk2-perl
and everything will be fine, hopefully.

many greetings gosia

That's mine :-)

I can update it if you want but I'm sure the MX packagers will do a better job.

OK, I've updated the package to v0.85 and added Debian stretch, buster & sid versions:

https://software.opensuse.org//download ... -generator

Let me know if there are any problems, I don't use openbox myself.

EDIT: no, wait, the postinst script is broken.

I will post back when I fix it...

EDIT2: right, it seems to work now.

By the way:
Would you please be so kindly and inform me how you managed the upload of a distro sized iso? We in germany have only fast download but slow upload speeds I think.

I just came across this cut & paste list that I used (I hope you find it useful):

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install build-essential cpanminus git && git clone git://github.com/trizen/obmenu-generator && sudo cp obmenu-generator/obmenu-generator /usr/bin && mkdir .config/obmenu-generator && sudo cp -r obmenu-generator/schema.pl ~/.config/obmenu-generator/ && sudo cpanm Linux::DesktopFiles && sudo cpanm Data::Dump && sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/obmenu-generator && obmenu-generator -p -i

The included documentation says it needs these additional packages

Code: Select all

perl-data-dump perl-linux-desktopfiles perl-file-desktopentry
and none of them are in debian or our repos so it's not going to happen tonight. - mike

Here's a first pass at obmenu-generator I rebuilt from bits generously offered by Head_on_a_Stick. If someone could give this a try and let me know if it behaves as expected... or not. If it tests OK, I'll send the set up for Tim to check into the repo.

It was built on a stock stretch base so you won't need to enable test to get it installed.
edit: This package is now in the repos

Hey Mike, it worked fine for me! The caveat being that I "upgraded" over Head_on_a_Stick's older deb. I don't have a machine without the old install with which to test an initial install. I don't recall all the steps required to get the old install going, but IIRC I had to go fishing for a package or two. Thank you!

If it would help, I could try it with a fresh system on a USB stick.
