Thunar thumbnails are rotated 90-degrees wrong?

I have a Sony DSC-WX350 camera. When I copy the images to my laptop, the thumbnails are good. However, when I edit these files in GIMP (2.10.8, installed from Package-Installer's MX repository), and export to a new .jpg file all the thumbnails generated by Thunar are rotated incorrectly.

That clearly sounds like it's GIMP.

However, I was using 2.10.? with Lubuntu and never had this experience. Furthermore, half of the images were taken landscape and not intentionally rotated within GIMP. Their thumbnails are showing as portrait. (The only processing that occurred to them was resizing, color balancing, brightness/contrast, unsharp enhancement filter).

Also, Nomac's Panel->Thumbnail displays correctly-oriented thumbnails. Suggesting it's something peculiar with Thunar?

If you view that image, then right click to save it to your ~/downloads directory, then browse that directory with Thunar, the thumbnail will be rotated 90 degrees to portrait. (However, if you view the file with Nomad, and turn on Panels->Thumnails, it's not rotated.).

[1] That's my latest foster dog. He was found trapped in a canal last February. A good samaritan jumped in to rescue him -- and was bitten on the arm, resulting in the dog having an official "bite record" (in addition to no social skills). He languished in the shelter for 2.5 months, hiding in the back of his kennel not interested in people -- people ignoring him when they learned of his bite record). I took him a week and a half a go. He's changed *a lot*.
