FocusWriter from the stable repo doesn't work

Here's the same problem with fixes for VLC on Arch: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=235223

It makes no difference if i use MX tweak and switch to intel.Stevo wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2019 5:48 pm No, it works for me with just the "focuswriter" command in the terminal.
It's Qt5...didn't we have some threads about Qt 5 apps like VLC not starting in MX for some people unless they added some environment command first? Sparky, can you start vlc from the terminal?
Does it make any difference if you use MX Tweak to switch to the "intel" driver and restart the system?
Oh, wait, is this the same laptop that gave you the same sort of error message with VLC? https://mxlinux.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... f&start=10
I've uninstalled VLC since it only worked If I had Adwaita style and icons.
This is the same computer with the VLC issue that you linked.

Re: FocusWriter from the stable repo doesn't work
Stevo is right. I got focuswriter to work by changing the icons to Adwaita, just like VLC.
I hate apps that constrain what icons (or anything) I want to use.
It's a shame, I really like focuswriter, I had used quite a few times on a linux mint distro a while back and thought it was great.

Re: FocusWriter from the stable repo doesn't work
Did you see the instructions in that Arch thread how to use qt5ct to just use Adwaita icons on the troublesome Qt 5 applications? There may be other icon themes that work, too, but I can't test.
Maybe setting Qt apps in qt5ct to use another style than gtk2 would also help. The styles will change in MX tools from the xfce ones, but you can do some tweaking to get them close. Focuswriter hides all the styles anyway.
I still wonder how this happens only on certain hardware.

No I haven't tried them, mostly out of stubbornness regarding me having to tweak and experiment for an app to work.
I found and downloaded bibisco which is amazing as well. I thin I'll stick to that.
