Occasionaly loss of control on touchpad & Keyboard

#1 Post by harrykar »

It's happened to me 2-3 times in a month so far. With laptop's screen closed and the battery almost exhausted, opening the screen and connecting the charger the cursor moves but clicking on things has no effect also can't go into shell(unresponsiveness) so have to turn the laptop off from his on/off button.
Up I bolded battery's sentence because only in that case i notice that behaviour. Someone of you guys experienced something like that?
TIA

Re: Occasionaly loss of control on touchpad & Keyboard  [Solved]

#2 Post by CharlesV »

I have seen this without the battery being really low... I found I was able to actually type my password in, and get it to unlock. (no dialog, just when its 'frozen' type in your password. )

If you have the xfce4 screen saver on board, remove it. you can add xscreensaver which is better and doesnt have all the issues.

Hi CharrlesV!
After 2 notifications at circa ~2-3% of remaining battery screen(when lid is up and me in front --the issue manifest when screen lid is down--) goes blueish and put me on login screen and there I can type my password

I'm not accustomed how(where) can i see what is the actual sceensaver?(I'm default after Mx's installation)

in the terminal you can check like this:

apt list xfce4-screensaver

if it shows that it is installed (default it is )

Then I would remove it, and then install xscreensaver

another method, run MX Package Installer and search for screensaver

Check the Enabled repos page and it will show you all of them, and you can see what is installed there too.

Possibly – MX-Tweak→ Other – Use libinput driver instead of synaptics…. (or vice versa) Not available in MX-23??
quasi déjà vu forgetfulness

I don't know, and I"m probably stating the obvious, but "~2-3% of remaining battery" seems very low, and I'd probably try to avoid that if possible.

And I'm not posting my problem, just mentioning, but previously – occasionally but consistently my cursor would become unresponsive and eventually freeze the system. I haven't seen others doing this, but simply opening the "Mouse and Touchpad" app and closing it stops it from freezing – yes sounds like superstition. I will add that it's so ingrained in me to do this that I have not, not done this for quite some time, and I get very frequent automatic liquorix kernel updates. I should try and not do it to see if it still freezes.

Or try removing the screensaver.

You're right xfce4-screensaver is here:

Code: Select all

$apt list xfce4-screensaver
Listing... Done
xfce4-screensaver/mx,now 4.18.2-0.1~mx23+1 amd64 [installed]
xfce4-screensaver/mx 4.18.2-0.1~mx23+1 i386
Then I would remove it, and then install xscreensaver
Remind me please screensaver != login screen right? It's the black screen after x minutes of not use ?

PS: Sorry my fault I pressed ! instead of quoting in your post :(

Right, screensaver is not the login screen. However ,there are issues with that screen saver and some cause problems when attempting to log back in.

On MX-23 no such option cause it's already libinput by default. That was up to MX-21.3 :)
