Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23 [Solved]
Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23
Just upgraded to MX Linux 23, and I'm attempting to sync my notebook
with my Dropbox account. I installed the daemon using the command provided
in the Dropbox page and also by installing the .deb package; in either case, at the
moment of starting the daemon I received an error message "Invalid URL. Please check your Client for a new one."
I got the same message using the url provided by the daemon when I started Dropbox from the command line.
Dropbox support page says this occurs when a user intends to link more than 3 devices, but this is not the case.
Moreover, I connected with Dropbox smoothly using MX21.
Any hints to solve this issue?

Resolved when Eadwine reminded me it might be the Firewall. Disabled the firewall and the connection was made.

Thanks Richb! I added it to a list of firewall tweeks for the next issuance of the MX User Manual....Allow Dropbox access to ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS), and 17600 and 17603 (to open files in third party applications)...

Re: Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23
Got a reply to DB ticket:
#1 he refers to is the list of hosts under account, Security.izio

I also use MX Linux 23 and had the exact same error as yours. The following helped me:
1. deleted the old link to my MX 21 installation.
2. stopped Dropbox client via CLI (dropbox stop)
3. started Dropbox client via CLI (dropbox start)
After step 3 the browser was started and the link was valid. I was able to link the installation successfully. I am not sure if step number 1 is really necessary. But it does not hurt
Hope this helps you!

Re: Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23
Thanks. It was actually an issue with the firewall blocking any incoming link. I used the Firewall Configuration to define a new rule and, alas, Dropbox sync was already pre-defined.
Re: Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23
Hi,
Sorry to join this thread, only I have disabled my firewall, and I still get the invalid URL message. Quite frustrating as all of my files are on Dropbox so this is a key requirement for me. Is there a fix in progress, or have I missed something somewhere?
Many thanks

Re: Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23
Since the firewall was not the solution for you, please start your own thread and post your QUick System info (search for it from the Application menu), and ask for help.kloos wrote: Tue Aug 08, 2023 5:01 am Hi,

Re: Dropbox's Invalid url error in MX23 [Solved]
Try adding an exception to the firewall rather than disabling it.
Check section 4.5.1 in the manual (page 121) to see how to add an exception to the firewall; it's available in the desktop as help.desktop.
Basic steps in xfce
+ launch the Firewall Configuration GUI
+ click the Rules bottom and then the plus sign to add a rule
+ select Dropbox LAN from the predefined dropdown menu
+ close
This should do it; at least, it worked for me
