Re: MX when shutdown HDD make noise
Welcome to the forum.
Perhaps it is because Windows 10 normal 'shutdown' mode doesn't fully shutdown at all. As part of its 'Fast Startup' feature it hibernates the kernel, instead of stopping it fully.
(Weirdly, if you need to fully shut down the kernel in Windows 10, restarting it from a running state will do that!)

Re: MX when shutdown HDD make noise
My Seagate external harddrive does the same thing occasionally. Not always, which is the weird thing but it is what it is. The four Samsung internal ones don't (all drives mentioned are SSDs).
I simply flick the power switch on the PSU after shutting down, that way there is no more power going to the drive and the beeping stops.

Re: MX when shutdown HDD make noise
My HDD also does this and it has always done it with every OS. It has 18000 hours runtime, but I remember I noticed the sound when it was brand new. Now I just see it as something normal.ma_az7032 wrote: Wed Jul 10, 2019 2:57 am hello.. i installed MX on my latitude E5420 issue is when shutdown MX hard disk drive make noise of parking media like force shutdown it not doing on windows 10 on the same device

You can try booting and shutting down with systemd instead (Advanced options in GRUB menu) and see if it makes a difference.
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

Re: MX when shutdown HDD make noise
Hard disk drives are mechanical devices. They have disks of metal impregnated with fine iron oxide particles that spin at terrific speeds, and arms with electromagnets on the end that rapidly move around on top of and between the disks. So they make some noise. If you want a system drive that's totally silent you could replace it with an SSD (solid state drive) that's as silent as the grave and also many times faster.
