QSI on XFCE Slightly Off

#1 Post by operadude »

@Eadwine Rose
Not sure if this is the correct location on the Forum for this issue.

I have 3 MX Distros installed (Xfce, KDE, & Fluxbox).
The following issue appears/occurs in Xfce ONLY.

When I click-on the QSI button for KDE & Fluxbox, the info at the top, under "System", and under that, "Desktop", and under "Distro", shows for KDE & Fluxbox, respectively:

"MX 23 Libretto - KDE (23.2)"
"MX 23 Libretto - Fluxbox (23.2)"

However, on Xfce, this is what I get:

"MX-23 - Xfce_x64 Libretto October 12 2023"

Here's my QSI for XFCE:

My main issue, is that it doesn't show exactly which version of MX23 I am running; namely, 23.2

This is not a huge issue; but, more importantly, QSI (Xfce ONLY) is also showing a very old Snapshot entry:

"Snapshot created on: 20231012_1725"

I have a Snapshot from 2024-02-16, which shows-up on QSI for both KDE & Fluxbox.

Is there something I need to change in grub.cfg, or some other system file, on my Xfce distro to accurately reflect my current Xfce system?

For clearer bug reporting [so the devs/helpers know exactly what version you have], the QSI will display the iso version that was installed, not what point release your MX is at right now after updates.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

Hmmm....Thought I had installed all 3 Distros the same way

Also, not sure why my Xfce install is showing a very old Snapshot (at the top of the QSI)?

Here is the .log of my last Snapshot for Xfce:

LUM.XFCE.log

For reference, here are the text files of my QSI for KDE, and Fluxbox, respectively:

QSI_KDE.txt
QSI_FLUX.txt

Like I said, this is a VERY MINOR ISSUE!

Just striving for consistency, and learning more about this awesome OS :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

I had installed the XFCE ahs version, switched the displaymanager to sddm and use KDE right now (no re-install, just getting the relevant packages via the package installer):

This is the distro info I get - it does say MX-23-2_ahs_x64, but the date is much earlier.

My guess is that the string in /etc/mx-version no longer matches the strings we change. Mostly because Xfce does not appear in our default strings.

So edit /etc/mx-version to change the version number of you wish.

dolphin_oracle wrote: Mon Mar 04, 2024 6:29 am My guess is that the string in /etc/mx-version no longer matches the strings we change. Mostly because Xfce does not appear in our default strings.

So edit /etc/mx-version to change the version number of you wish.
Thanks, D.O. :exclamation:

Hmmm....Thought I had installed all 3 Distros the same way

Also, not sure why my Xfce install is showing a very old Snapshot (at the top of the QSI)?.....
That just means that you installed your xfce install from that older snapshot iso listed in the QSI, instead of whatever iso(s) from which you installed your other 2 distros.

My laptop's MX23 is installed from a snapshot iso that I created on my PC (where I was testing MX23 alpha2). So the laptop's QSI shows at the top:

Code: Select all

Snapshot created on: 20230410_1506
[MX23 was officially released on 31 July 2023]
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

@asqwerth:

On my KDE and Fluxbox installs, the top of the QSI shows my Latest Snapshots:

For Fluxbox:
Snapshot created on: 20240216_1220
Distro: MX-23.2_x64 Libretto September 18 2023

For KDE:
Snapshot created on: 20240214_1402
Distro: MX-23.2_x64 Libretto October 13 2023

I have a much more recent Snapshot for Xfce. See my latest LUM.log for Xfce:
posting.php?mode=reply&t=79604#pr767830
That occured on: snapshot-20240212_1300

So, not sure why Xfce is not updating QSI for the latest Snapshot, whereas KDE & FLUX do.

Again, No Biggie, just curious...

Thank You, D.O. :exclamation:

Here's the updated QSI:
QSI_XFCE_Updated.txt
which shows: Distro: MX-23.2_x64 Libretto October 12 2023.

Still not sure why Xfce is not updating QSI for the most recent Snapshot, as KDE & Fluxbox do. See my previous post to asqwerth: posting.php?mode=quote&p=767832#pr767837

Again, no real biggie :p
