VLC New Year Party  [Solved]

#1 Post by Jakob77 »

I have never been happier with a media player than I am with VLC in MX.
I use it a whole lot for pictures, music and videos.

But to prevent problems it is my boring general attitude to stay close to the defaults.
Therefore I have not tested much configuration yet.

In Tools >> Properties (Ctrl + p) I have made "Esc" work as quit.

And I often start VLC with a command for random play or show like this:

Code: Select all

vlc ~/Music_folder_name/*.* --random
or this:

Code: Select all

vlc ~/Picture_folder_name/*.* -Z -f
That is about all, and I don't really need any problems solved, so in order to avoid taking unnecessary time from our wonderful busy and hard working problem solvers I have already marked this subject as solved.

However there is a lot more to explore in VLC, and I hope some of you will enjoy making this party a tribute to VLC by bragging and inspiring with all details about how you handle the VLC player to get the most out of it.

Beside that I want to thank everybody for all the good things we already have taught each other during the year.

I wish you all a Happy New Year.

The impressive things I really like on VLC are:
- Changing file types
- Streaming Radio (And it does AirTune streaming too! )
- Recording live TV
- Customizable Interface
- One more 'cross over' application that I can put on Windows machines and get people used to it - before their Linux transition :-)
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

VLC is one of those pieces of software that "just works"... almost everywhere. I use it on freebsd, windows, mac, and linux. I've tried other players and occasionally, I even like them, but I always come back to VLC. The number of formats it supports is crazy and the interface is quite minimal but amazingly functional.

What I like is the option to rip the audio from any file and save it as .mp3.

I, to use VLC for everything (also for listening to music, just use the file manager like a playlist (clicking one by one of course :D ) )

Other two features most may not be aware of:
  • Can crop media without reprocessing ("as is") .. all you need to do is click "record" from the point you want to start it.. let it play, then stop wherever you like. (Will be recorded into a new file with the original quality either for video and audio)
  • Has the "Compressor" built-in (just not enabled by default). With that (enabled) sound becomes more vivid , especially poor recordings ... Or ...you can hear a whisper better and an explosion (or so) sound is set to normal. (And not all software has that feature and to have that system-wide you need(ed) workarounds that doesn't/didn't work that perfect)
