Disabling touchpad when mouse plugged in.

#1 Post by rajiv »

It appears that the synaptics touchpad driver, having been deprecated, no longer works in KDE Wayland. There could be a potential work around suggested in a kubuntu forum, but it requires the installation of a ppa
synaptics has been depreciated and will not work with Wayland. You have to use X11 for it to work. But right now it still works.
I've also used Touchpad-indicator which sort of works but you have to install it via it's ppa from here
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
From: Disable touchpad when mouse plugged in

How do I install this ppa on MX to see whether I can disable the touchpad when the mouse is plugged in

Debian does not equal Ubuntu. Installing / activating a ppa in MX is a sure way to mess with your system. See here:
viewtopic.php?t=44747
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thanks - I will go ahead and make a package request. The inability to disable the touchpad when plugging in a mouse is quite frustrating.

It turns out that the Touchpad indicator is in one of the MX repositories. I will install and report back.

Yes. Installed and it works. I can manually disable the touchpad with the mouse.
