Low FPS + Battle.net via Bottles will not log in

#1 Post by About30Ninjas »

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post on these forms, please be nice! lol

I have an issue with MX Linux 23.1 with my current build - certain titles via Steam are experiencing low FPS, about half compared to Windows. 2nd issue is I cannot seem to open Battle.net via Bottles. Again, previous build, no issue.
I've tried various NVIDIA drivers and Kernel versions, as well as different versions of Proton but nothing seemed to improve the issue.

I am wondering if there is some sort of compatibility issue with my hardware? I am using a MSI Mag B660m Mortar Max motherboard with an Intel i5 12400f overclocked to 5 ghz. Kinda a unique board in that it allows you to overclock
non-K processors. In order to do so, apparently it uses an older Intel firmware that Intel didn't lock down. Thinking it might have been the older firmware, I reverted it back to stock but the same issue occurred.

Am I allowed to use the W word in these parts? lol. On Windows, no issue, same games having issue on Linux, run much better on M$ Winblows. Which makes me sad =(, I'd really prefer to format my Windows partition. I've done some searching, and I can't seem to find anyone else with this specific hardware and these specific issues.
Tempted to put in my old Ryzen and B550 MB. Please the attached Quick System Info:

Thank you again.

*Note: 2nd display was not connected at the time of the issue -

Welcome in!

Did you by any chance try a liquorix kernel? I have found that the 6.2.14 does a great job, and then the 6.4.11 also seems pretty darn good. The liquorix kernel have lower latency and are not throttled I am told, but for me they seem to run smoother and things happen better.

The other things that may provide some difference. Run compositor on the "prefer Lower Latency" or "Force Lowest Latency". And idk about on KDE, but in xfce disabling the compositor can resolve some low fps issues - something like this might at least point to a fix?

Possibly running MX Cleanup and Cleat Apt Cache and ~/cache ( All )
( I use stacer for this, clearing ALL cache out.)

Also you may be able to find something helpful here

*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.

Thanks for getting back to me - I ended up installing another distro (POPOS 22.04 Nvidia), and whatever the changes are, it seemed to resolve my gaming issue on Linux. I appreciate the help, but it seems I have found a work around.
