NVIDIA GK107GL problems on MX-21

#1 Post by Sakis Migdalas »

Hi!
I installed MX-21 KDE version and for a few days things worked flawlessly. Then the response time to any mouse click started approaching that of a minute!
Thus, I turned to MX Tools and installed the proprietary Nvidia drive, rebooted ...and guess, it ended up with "starpar: service(s) returned failure".
OK, I restored the open source driver with "sudo ddm-mx -p nividia", rebooted ... and guess, it ended up with "startpar: service(s) returned failuer: plymouth ... failed!"

Is there any way to get this thing working? Here below follows the sysifo of my machine (with open source driver).

Thank you in advance!

The Nvidia Driver Installer has ben updated very recently (for similar issues to fix them).

Code: Select all

sudo apt update ; sudo apt dist-upgrade -y
Then try the Nvidia installation again.

(You can also install the 6.1 kernel from "MX Package Installer" then reboot with and try, but do the full upgrade as above in all cases)

... If still not: /var/log/ddm.log

(just after the Nvidia installation)

(You can also post ddm.log simply using the "Quick System Info" from menu, click the drop-down menu (where the pointer is in the below picture) when you start that ...)

Thank you but that updated only mx-welcome :-) Clearly the system was quite up to date

Then try the Nvidia installation again.

Done it, rebooted and now it works! :-)

Thank you!

Thank you, too for the feedback. Maybe (since NDI was already the new one in your case) just an "update" was needed (to re-scan the sources and install the new 5.20 (5.10 was the problematic driver and 5.20 has been added to ahs repo)) and that was done by that. (In fact NDI already asks whether to update first but one needs to answer yes).
