Fan keeps spinning

#1 Post by Sparky »

So this is a recent development. My system is always up to date, but lately the fan wont stop spinning, even though I don't see anything that should be doing this, the temp isn't too high. It's a mini PC with 1 large fan on the top side. I mean it's continously spinning and sounds like it's out of breath.

Ok, but why would it have started just this last week?
I thought the CPU can handle 100 C max?

Sparky,
Try running your system for a little while without Firefox (or if you have one of its derivatives like Waterfox etc). That process Isolated Web Co appears (from a web search) to be a co-process of Firefox and it seems to me that your system has it running using an inordinate amount of CPU and RAM. Another suggestion I've seen is to disable in Firefox Hardware Acceleration. Good luck.

Yes, indeed it's pretty hot. I have the A/C on full blast, but it's not cool enough. That's a good point, thanks.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I have around 30 tabs on Firefox that are open. It wasn't causing this before, but the ambient temperature has been rising.

30 tabs! Maybe it is one or two of those tabs where the content is causing such a high load on your CPU and RAM. Try closing FFox altogether and see if that changes your read outs.

I closed FF. I'm not sure it makes a difference, the fan is still spinning, but the temperature dropped immediately, like in 1 minute it dropped 10 degrees.
Were can you see which app is causing the most stress? In processes, all I see is RAM usage, and it never reaches 50% of the RAM I have.
