MX Linux INstall from Live version
I have the xfce version on USB, it opens the live version of MX21.
When I click the Install Mx Linux option, it does nothing but circle those flower petals for extreme lengths of time.
I just give up trying, and press the power button to shut down, and go back to Leap to get some things done.
I have tried to install several times. NO SUCCESS.
SYSTEM:
I Have an older 64bit HP Compaq DC7700 CMT, with three HDD's, Main drive is WIndows 10 and WIndows 7.PLUS a version of Opensuse Leap 15.3 with KDE
A 2nd HDD has nothing but Another version of Opensuse Leap 15.3 with xfce DE.
I have a third 160G drive I am trying to install MX on. IT is empty. I have pre-formatted it 'unalocaled', fat32. vfat etc, again NO success regardless of the format.
What can I do to get it past that flower that just spins for hours on end?
I there an iso for MX that is direct install, without having go through the live version off the USB stick to install? IF SO, WHERE IS IT?

Re: MX Linux INstall from Live version
The live isos are the only isos.
Perhaps posting the quick system info while running live would be good
And also the /var/log/minstall.log file which may tell us where it’s jamming up.

Re: MX Linux INstall from Live version
You could, maybe, rsync the running live / directory to the / of an ext4 partition on the drive you want to use excluding the /live directory (add /live to the list of what's not rsynced), then manage your own installed /etc/fstab and install a boot loader. I haven't tried this but I'm thinking it might work. It would be about an 8 GB transfer. Follow the rsync method noted in the following link:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/rs ... tem_backup
Even if it doesn't work, it won't do any harm unless you rsync to the wrong destination.
However, if you can't start the installer there may likely be something wrong with your live-usb. You may get useful feedback by running the minstall command from the commandline:
You'll get a lot of screen output even when it's working correctly.

Re: MX Linux INstall from Live version
OK, Thanks folks,
I will try @dolphin_oracle's thing tomorrow evening. To late tonight. That live version is a slow turtle to work with.
@figuero's may be well above my head to try, but worth reading through again.

quick system info
There is no /var/log/minstall.log to be found!
And when I it opens the installer with that never ending flower spinning.
here is what is after 20 minutes of running.
So. I'll once again hit the power button on my PC and get on with things that need done.

Re: MX Linux INstall from Live version
If there's such an option in Bios: Change sata mode to Ahci (from Raid) save and exit. (also disable secure boot if there is)
(Before changing to Ahci in Bios: Open Regedit in Windows and make 2 simple changes to not make it unbootable)
Meanwhile: minstall.log will be there after you try/start installation, it's normal that there were nothing before it.

Re: MX Linux INstall from Live version [Solved]
The bios on that old HP Compaq doesn’t have the option to sata to Ahci.
What format should the HDD I am trying to put MX on? Fat32, xfs, an ext?

Re: MX Linux INstall from Live version
What was in the partial miinstall above was KDE, I will put the whisker on the USB stick, and work from there.

Also, the /var/log/minstall was not there because for some reason the persistence wasn’t there to save it.
