Output from MX to a television [Solved]
Output from MX to a television
Background:
Directing video and audio output direct by HDMI from computer running MX to a larger screen tv is wonerful!
Issue:
how to make it even better!
Why:
the tv video output does not quite match the monitor output with a few lines missing on all edges of the tv screen. Basically the video out is larger than the tv screen can cater for.
And so output is cropped a little at all 4 edges.
I prefer the "panel" (if that is what it is called. It is the edge bound object that shows open apps, some system info, date time and so forth. Only the lower have of contents appear onscreen on tv (monitor is fine)) I prefer the panel in the Top position
Q1: is it necessary for things to hug the edge of the screen or, like conkys) can the panel be shifted in by some means or even a floating panel a bit like KRunner but with more flexibility perhaps?
Audio output via HDMI is pretty wonderful really, Couple that with Hibernate option and it is easy to flick between different HDMI input devices.
Any workarounds, tweaks, improvements in specifications or working methods would be gratefully received
Thank you
ps: if you have not tried using the tv as a monitor it really is worth the effort even if the screen placements might not be perfecto mundo

Re: Output from MX to a television [Solved]
Some TVs have a setting to adjust the screen to the input, it may be labeled "point to point". Works for me.
Some OSes / desktops may have a setting too, like Raspberry Pi Os does.
I use Linux to make my TV "smart" - the best TV I ever had. It is without all the nagging and stupidity and obsolescence of the fake smart TVs.

Re: Output from MX to a television
From your Chromium browser, why don't you cast your TAB or screen (choose from sources) to the TV (I'm assuming the TV is an Android TV)? I have a Sony Android TV, and I can cast from a Chrome/Chromium browser either the TAB or the screen to the TV. This is assuming your TV is connected via wired/wirelessly. Else, you are stuck using HDMI cable.
Mixed of desktops and laptops, I have a Gravis Ultrasound Classic card (unfortunately its ISA-slot based) ... - I must be a dino.
Running on my DesktopPC - MX-23.4 AHS with latest Kernel: 6.12.17-1-liquorix-amd64

My tv does not seem to have the Point-to-point option

Re: Output from MX to a television
Started using refurbished 39" 4K TVs as monitors about 10 years back, cheap as could be and amazing to have 8M pixels at your disposal - the ability to show an entire "D" sized engineering drawing on one screen let us stop printing out entire rolls of drawings, the first screens we bought paid for themselves in a couple months in the saved cost of paper and ink.
Double check the settings, there's almost always some way to get every pixel to get shown exactly as it comes in, no scaling or sharpness adjustment or color adjustment. Every manufacturer has a different name for it, but I haven't found one yet that didn't have some way to show every dot.

Ditto per PhilSalkie:
Overscan The term varies between TV brands, Picture Size, Aspect Ratio etc.
Vizio: Normal
Samsung: Screen Fit
Sharp, LG, and Philips: No consistency

Re: Output from MX to a television
Most of the time, it depends on your browser. If you use Firefox, then you can dismiss any thought of casting to a TV, it's not supported. You need to use Google Chrome or a Chromium based Web Browser to get casting capabilities but keep in mind that some early model Smart TV's may not have casting capability built in.
Casting is only possible through a network, not through HDMI or USB, so the TV needs to be on the same private network as your laptop/Desktop PC. It doesn't matter if one is connected by LAN Cable and the other by WiFi, both by LAN Cable, or both by WiFi, as long as both the TV and your machine are on the same private network, casting should be possible.
