Thanks Fehlix and Okie.

Okie, that's a new one to me, I will try and look for that.

Fehlix,I think what you write will solve this, but I have some questions as my run level 3 fu is rusty!

How do I get to that place where I change splash to no splash?
Where is that line with linux where I type "a space" then 3.

Basically, what or where am I editing, and how do I get there from a booting?

In that line is there no number in the current line , like a 5? And after running the command, do I go back and make splash, and omit the "3" ?

Is there anyway to do the nvidia during the install?
If I install nvidia during the live session for example?
Or add the code by editing the installed grub with a live session?

I haven't messed with this stuff lately, MX usually works so easily !
This machine has been video trouble for a while.

To add / change kernel boot parameter, we can do this by editing the GRUB menu entry.
During the GRUB menu countdown of the default 5 seconds press any key like space bar to interrupt the countdown.
At the bottom of the menu you see a line
Press 'e' to edit the selected entry
Which means you press the key labeled with "E" to get the GRUB menu editor open.
Here you can navigate with the arrow keys, and Pos1- and End-key.
To add/change boot parameter you would now navigate to the line starting with "linux"
To quick jump to the end of the linux line, press the End-key or alternatively press arrow-down and arrow-left.
Now change splash to nosplash or remove splash.
The default runlevel 5 ( in systemd speak "graphical" target) is not explicitly set b/c that's the default.
To get to the linux console we want to boot to runlevel 3. (the non-graphical target)
To boot from the editor, you find also a hint at the bottom to boot:
Press Ctrl+x or F10 to boot

You would now get the console login prompt.

To install nvidia you would first update/refresh the apt package lists with
sudo apt update

followed by running the nvidia installer
sudo ddm-mx -i nvidia

+++Edit+++: When done, to reboot:
sudo reboot

Note: An alternative way to get the system updated and get nvidia installed,
would be to boot first into the LiveSystem from the LiveUSB.
And open tool "Chroot Rescue Scan" from the menu.
The tool will scan/search for installed linux systems and list the found system to select,
and opens a chroot terminal as user root on the installed system
Here you can now do the same (as root - no sudo needed)
apt update

and
ddm-mx -i nvidia

PS: The "ibt" boot parameter mentioned may help (or not) to get nvidia issue sorted,
in case you want to turn it off ( I think it's turned on by default in recent kernels)
Add boot parameter
ibt=0 (or ibt=off )

Kernel boot parameter which you want to add permanently to the GRUB menu,
best to be adjusted with help of "MX Boot Options" tool.

Thanks fehlix,

I thought that would work. I thank you for the exact instructions. Since I was able to get the live session working, and enjoying the music streaming, your method using the chroot rescue scan worked easily while listening to the tunes. Thanks, I always felt the live USB session was the magic bullet, that could fix anything.

Here it is running after I rebooted from the live session, and yanked out the USB drive.
Now I have the nice latest MX 23.2 running on the most updated CPU in the house.

Thanks !

Recall also the original problem, of not getting a proper screen resolution, meaning the edges of the display were cut off on the LG TV over hdmi.

This was a long standing problem. I finally got that sorted, at least kind of.

In the Display settings, the TV is incorrectly detected as an LG 72" TV. It is not, it is a 50", and there is no way to change that setting. So I can pick different resolutions, with native at 3480 x 2160, but that is so big, the whole sides of the desktop are missing. But it has a aspect ratio of 16:9. If I try some of the other resolutions, circles are not round (wrong aspect ratio). So, finally I can run the 1280 : 720, which is 16:9 so circles are round. But some of the panel is cut off, so I searched the internet, and several hits said to dig deep into the special picture settings on the TV. I did and found one for "Just over-scan", and I set that to ON, and now, circles are round, I see the whole panel, and things are generally looking OK for now.
