In another topic of mine a forum member recommended the Plank dock. I finally got around to test driving it today and really like it's simplicity. In some ways I like it more than the XFCE4 panel. However I haven't found a way to launch the system Log Out popup screen from Plank. I've tried calling /usr/bin/xfce4-session-logout directly and in a script file. Also wrote a C# program in .NET Core, my professional environment, to launch it. The Plank docks also wouldn't launch it. The normal methods for adding an item to the dock won't work, so I created my own .dockitem file in /home/skallal/.config/plank/dock1/launchers/. I used the other files in the folder as a template for my own file. Basically I want a simple way to Log Out, Restart, Shut Down, Suspend, Switch User etc. from the Plank dock. It has no option to do this, so it won't pass my test for a primary dock.
Here's a screen of the Log Out popup screen:

can you not just drag the "Logout" app from the whisker menu onto the dock? works for me...

Re: Launching the system logout popup from the Plank dock
The odd thing is it didn't work. In fact I've difficulty dragging other items to the dock. It's easier for me to open an app and right click and select Keep in Dock. Right now the Plank dock is on the top and the XFCE dock on the bottom until I'm happy Plank will meet my needs.dolphin_oracle wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 7:57 am can you not just drag the "Logout" app from the whisker menu onto the dock? works for me...
Soon after submitting this topic, I managed to get the Logout app working from the dock. But there's no mechanism to remove a post or topic on this forum. The solution was adding xfce4-session-logout.dockitem to /home/skallal/.config/plank/dock1/launchers:
Code: Select all
[PlankDockItemPreferences]
Launcher=file:///usr/share/applications/xfce4-session-logout.desktop
