Re: Vivaldi challenges (open external link in new background tab, in my case)
Just ran into this one: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/107785/add-open-external-links-in-background-option
Such a bummer that that one extension doesn't work.
Although I love Vivaldi to death, I've also found over the years that the devs are less than responsive when they are asked to fix a ...

Re: How to flash nvme firmware update [Solved]
Thanks, BV206 and Stuart M. I wasn't able to use the method suggested in the mattbanderson.com post because my P41 is attached via an external USB case and for this method to work it has to be installed on the motherboard and seen as an nvme device. Also, I decided against the 'hirenbootcd" for ...

5) When I needed to upgrade my Data drive last time.. I copied over the data I was currently working on to a temp location on my 'home', I literally just brought the machine down, replaced the nvme Data drive. Brought the machine back up, changed my fstab file to this new drive and then ...

Re: How do you usually handle major MX Linux upgrades? (reinstall vs manual upgrade)
A fresh install.
I do not even save /home.
All my data is on separate drives, so the OS has no effect.
The only one time I ever had stability problems was on a machine for my wife, where I tried to re-use home. It worked, but it was never as stable as the fresh bare metal installs.
It seemed to ...

Re: Migrating from laptop to USB stick, and installing over the laptop "instance". [Solved]
Thanks, guys for the feedback - it helped me to solidify a strategy going forward - clone the drive on my laptop to an external drive (fail-safe), make a list of installed packages, backup my folders to a different external drive, boot from MX live USB, install to my laptop, copy the folders from ...

Re: Migrating from laptop to USB stick, and installing over the laptop "instance". [Solved]
My question is - could I migrate all my laptop folders to the live USB stick (space is not an issue), and then install from the updated USB stick back on to my laptop?
"Laptop folders" is pretty vague. You can back up your ~/Desktop directory, install MX, and copy Desktop back, if that's what ...

Migrating from laptop to USB stick, and installing over the laptop "instance". [Solved]
My apologies in advance if this has been posted anywhere else - if so, please point me to the thread - thanks!
This is not really a "help" question - I want to know if this has been done before/can it be done?

Re: Responses to Coming changes in impending MX 25 release.
I've decided to bite the bullet, and boot KDE MX23 with systemD, as an experiment - unless something(s) go terribly awry, I'll stick with it until the first point release of MX25.
I commented (page 15 post #147) that I've been booting systemd with no issues. My media server requires systemd ...

Re: Responses to Coming changes in impending MX 25 release.
Thanks for the link - when I went there, this caught my eye:
"systemd hangs on startup or shutdown
Sometimes it is necessary to investigate why systemd hangs on startup or on reboot/shutdown."
Huh????? Do the Debian devs consider this to be a standard "feature"? If so, then that's another data ...

I guess the best way is to test it and find out, if it doesn't work then try in a VM with sysvinit and compare the result. Given that systemd has been around in the Debian ecosystem since version 8 (Jessie) there has been 10 years for packages and programs to adjust, so if you are running ...
